Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day 2021

Today, 11th February, is the Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day.  The children celebrated Mass with Father Peter in a live stream from St. Mary’s church. Today the children have been thinking about the message Bernadette was given by Our Lady all those years ago; she asked us to pray, and what better message is there to share with our children during these difficult times. Some of the children have written prayers or completed arts and crafts to celebrate this special day.

Children’s Mental Health Week

1-7 Feb 2021

From 1-7 February 2021, we took part in Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme was EXPRESS YOURSELF and we encouraged children (and adults) to explore the different ways we can express ourselves, and the creative ways that we can share our feelings, our thoughts and our ideas.

When we express ourselves we don’t have to be a great artist or a wonderful dancer. It’s not about being the very best at something or putting on a performance. Let’s encourage each other to find lots of different ways to get creative and express ourselves.

Each day this week, we will be taking part in a different theme:

Monday 1st February - Introduction to Children's Mental Health Week.

Tuesday 2nd February – Express yourself through Art

Wednesday 3rd February – Express yourself through Dance/movement

Thursday 4th February – Express yourself through Music

Friday 5th February – Dress to Express Day

On Friday, the children were asked to express themselves through their clothes, hair etc. They could wear their favourite colour or choose a range of colours that express how they were feeling. Colour can be very personal and mean different things to different people, so this is a great opportunity to encourage self-expression and celebrate a diverse range of emotions.

Some children also shared videos of how they like to relax and feel calm.  Some children like to sing and dance; others like to play an instrument or create digital animations.

December 2020

The children all enjoyed a lovely Christmas lunch this week!

Congratulations to our Y4 children who took part in a great battle against St Theresa's on TTRockstars!

October 2020:

Congratulations to the OLOL children who worked so hard to win their TTRockstars battle with St Theresa's school.  A special mention to David Platt and Danny Stanley in Year 6 whose grit and determination throughout the week motivated everyone to play more.

On Wednesday 18th March, MC Grammar (AKA Jacob Mitchell) visited OLOL. He led an amazing assembly where a number of different children joined in with the singing and rapping.

For World Book Day in March, Paula Harrison (author of ‘Robyn Silver’ and the ‘Red Moon Rising’ series) spent the day working with the children.

She read extracts from her books and demonstrated how to create a character for a story.

She explained to the children that she was writing stories when she was as young as six years old – we hope she has inspired many of our children to do the same!

Online Safety:

On Monday 2nd March, Heather, from Education Child Protection (ECP) Ltd, worked with all the pupils from Y1 to Y6 throughout the day and gave the children some great tips on how to keep their personal details private when online.

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is supporting CAFOD 2020 Lenten Appeal.

A representative from this charity spoke to the children at an Assembly on Thursday 5th March 2020. The theme for the assembly was the Amazon rainforest, with a focus on land loss, climate change and the rights of indigenous people.

CAFOD boxes were sent home to each family, as part of our school's Lenten fund raising (almsgiving).
